Schedule 1

Resident Status Activities that can be engaged in, in Japan
Diplomatic Activities as members of a diplomatic mission or consulate organization of a foreign government that the Government of Japan accepts, as persons who receive the same privileges and exemptions as those of a diplomatic mission based on a treaty or international practice or as family members belonging to the same household of these persons
Official Activities as persons who engage in the public duties of foreign governments recognized by the Government of Japan or of international organizations or as family members belonging to the same household of these persons (excluding those activities listed in the lower column for the item Diplomatic in this schedule)
Teaching Activities engaging in research, instruction for research or education in universities or similar organizations or advanced professional schools in Japan
Artistic Music, fine arts, literature or other art-related activities that involve remuneration (excluding those activities listed in the lower column for the item of Performance in Schedule 2)
Religious Missionary work or other religious activities conducted by persons of religion dispatched by foreign religious organizations to Japan
Reporting News gathering or other activities of reporting conducted based on a contract with foreign mass-media

Schedule 2

Resident Status Activities that can be engaged in, in Japan
Investment, Management Activities that engage in the commencement of the management of trade or other businesses in Japan, or in conducting management by investing in these businesses in Japan or in the control of these businesses, or in conducting management or in the control of such businesses on behalf of foreigners (including foreign corporations; the same applies in this item hereinafter) who have commenced management of these businesses in Japan or foreigners who have invested in these businesses in Japan (excluding those activities that engage in management or control of business that cannot be legally conducted without the capacity listed in the lower column for the item of Legal or Accounting business in this Schedule)
Legal, Accounting Business Activities that engage in business relating to law or accounting that are specified to be conducted by lawyers specializing in foreign law, foreign certified public accountants or other persons having legal capacity
Medical Activities that engage in business relating to medical treatment that are specified to be conducted by medical doctors, dentists or other persons having legal capacity
Research Activities that engage in business that conducts research based on a contract with public or private organizations in Japan (excluding those activities listed in the lower column for the item of Teaching in Schedule 1)
Education Activities that conduct language education or other education in Japan’s elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, secondary education schools, schools for persons having defective eyesight, schools for persons having speech and hearing difficulties, schools for physically handicapped or mentally afflicted children, higher vocational schools, miscellaneous schools or other educational organizations similar to these schools in terms of facility and system
Technology Activities that engage in work, based on a contract with public and private organizations in Japan, requiring technology or knowledge belonging to the areas of science, engineering or other natural science (excluding those activities listed in the lower column for the item of Teaching in Schedule 1, and item of Investment or Management of this Schedule, items of Medical through Education inclusive, item of intra-company transfer and in the lower column for the item of performance)
Cultural Knowledge, International Business Activities that engage in work, based on a contract with public and private organizations in Japan, requiring knowledge belonging to the areas of law, economics, sociology or other human science (excluding those activities listed in the lower column for the items of Teaching, Artistic and Reporting in Schedule 1, and item of Investment or Management of this Schedule, and items of Investment or Management through Education inclusive, item of intra-company transfer and in the lower column for the item of performance)
Intra-company Transfer Activities that are listed in the column for Technology or in the lower column of Cultural Knowledge, International Business and that are conducted by staff, belonging to offices in foreign countries of public or private organizations having a head office, branch offices or other offices in Japan, who are transferred to offices in Japan for specified period and conducted at such offices
Performance Activities relating to performance of drama, theatrical entertainment, music, sports or others or other activities of public entertainments (excluding those activities listed in the lower column for the items of Investment or Management of this Schedule)
Expertise Activities that engage in work, based on a contract with public and private organizations in Japan, requiring skilled techniques belonging to special areas in industry

Schedule 3

Resident Status Activities that can be engaged in, in Japan
Cultural Activity Academic or artistic activities that does not involve revenue, or that conduct professional research on the culture or art unique to Japan or that acquire such culture or art under the instructions of experts (excluding those activities listed in the lower columns for the items of Study Abroad through Training inclusive of Schedule 4)
Short Stay Activities of sightseeing, recreation, sports, visit of family, tour of inspection, participation to seminar or meeting, business communication or similar activities that are conducted by staying in Japan for a short period

Schedule 4

Resident Status Activities that can be engaged in, in Japan
Study Abroad Activities to receive education at Japan’s universities or similar organizations, professional course of higher vocational schools, organizations that conduct education to enter universities in Japan for those who have finished school education of 12 years in foreign countries or specialized vocational high schools
School Attendance Activities to receive education at Japan’s high schools (including the latter course of secondary education schools), schools for persons having defective eyesight, schools for persons having speech and hearing difficulties, higher division of schools for physically handicapped or mentally afflicted children, advanced or general course of higher vocational schools, miscellaneous schools (excluding those organizations listed in the lower column for the item of Study Abroad) or other educational organizations similar to these schools in terms of facility and system
Training Activities to acquire techniques, skills or knowledge by being accepted by public or private organizations in Japan (excluding those activities listed in the lower columns for the items of Study Abroad and School Attendance of this Schedule)
Stay with Family Daily activities conducted as a spouse or children supported by persons who stay with a resident status listed in the upper column of Schedules 1, 2 and 3 (excluding Diplomatic, Official and Short Stay) or who stay with the resident status of Study Abroad, School Attendance or Training of this Schedule

Schedule 5

Resident Status Activities that can be engaged in, in Japan
Specified Activity Activities that the Minister of Justice specifies specifically for individual foreigners

Spouse of Japanese nationals, etc. Spouse of a Japanese national or a specially adopted child pursuant to Article 817-2 of the Civil Code (Law No. 89, 1896), or persons who was born as a child of a Japanese national
Spouse of Permanent Resident, etc. Spouse of a person who stay with the resident status of Permanent Resident or a Special Permanent Resident (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “Permanent Residents”), or persons who were born in Japan as a child of a Permanent Resident and stay in Japan continuously thereafter
Fixed Domicile Resident Persons that the Minister of Justice allows to stay by considering special reasons and by specifying fixed period of stay
